What is an email job and how do I find one?

Main Post:

I often see people on this sub talking about “email jobs,” some of which apparently pay 120k or something like that. What even is an email job? Is it email marketing or is it literally just reading and responding to emails for people? I am located in NYC. Do some of you really have a job like that that pays really well?

Top Comment: Apply to a big legacy Fortune 500 company. You'll get lost in the system. I've haven't done any real work (not even responding to emails) in months. 83k a year and remote

People way over-estimate how many high-paying fake email jobs there are (especially now)

Main Post:

I’ve seen a few threads where people have asked how to crack into a high 5 figure - 6 figure fake email jobs... they really don’t exist much anymore. I think for a time, when tech valuations were way overblown and these companies had endless funding, you could work a non-tech job at a big tech company and work like 4 hours a day doing nothing of value. I have friends that did that, but they’re almost all laid off now. Now that most of these jobs are slashed, and most of senior management is dealing with recession anxiety, companies are highly scrutinize the roles of anyone taking away a significant chunk from the bottom line. There are exceptions for sure, but most people who are paid a lot and don’t work insane hours have a very specialized skill that is worth the cost — say they know a coding language extremely well or they are amazing at using one piece of software. They probably do exist for 40-50k though.

people with fake email jobs, can you describe your average day?

Main Post:

just curious

Top Comment:

Mine's probably much worse than most. I wake up at 8am on the dot, just in time to 'clock in' from my laptop while still lying half conscious in bed, then spend the next hour 'getting myself in the mood' in time for my 9am standup meeting (which I usually take in bed with camera off) where I dont say anything, get some updates, then do a quiz with my colleagues.

Then over the course of the next 9 hours (they're ten hour shifts), I just check in every 30 min or so to refresh a salesforce dashboard and see if theres anything I need to do. Often there is nothing to do. If theres something, it's usually 5 min work tops.

It wasn't always like this, but even at its busiest I have never worked so little in my life. All the zoomers on my team think this is real life...

Are there any jobs offering just chat/email/client ticket support?

Main Post:

Due to the general noise in the house, I'm looking for a online job that is solely chat, email, or client ticket based work. I have experience with administrative/office work and medical/healthcare experience. Are there any places offering?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Top Comment: Looking for same but mostly just cause I hate talking on the phone.

Is there a remote job where you just reply to emails?

Main Post:

Hi :) I am wondering if there exists such a job as one in which you get work remote and be paid just to reply to customer emails (no phone nor live chat)? After all, somebody must reply to all those emails I send outdoor clothing companies! In particular I am in the UK.

It could be replying to retail queries or maybe tech problems. It has to be remote and flexible (no phone, no live chat) due to medical issues I have which affect my availability.

Does such a job exist? If so, what job title should I search for in Indeed?

If it helps, my experience is in software, but I don't care of it's a clothing company's emails I'm replying to. Just don't want to do programming anymore. I want a writing job and I happen to like writing emails (I know, how sad am I), so wondering if there is a job just for this.

Maybe I am being too wishful.

Thanks for any help :)

Edit: Thanks for all the replies! From the replies and my searches on Indeed I'm writing this one off as a 'unicorn' and I'm looking for summet else.

What are these jobs where you just "send email all day?"

Main Post:

Now I know even for people where emailing feels excessive they are valuable not just because they send emails but because they have the expertise to make the content of them meaningful and impactful, but never the less as someone who enjoys writing, typing and communicating clearly I can't help but think a job where I send email all day wouldn't be so bad and just curious what the reality behind this informal category of work is. What jobs are people actually doing this for? What's the ground floor? Thanks.

Got an email for a job I applied to but not sure if its legit

Main Post:

I been applying to tons of jobs and frankly cant even remember where I've applied to. I got an email today saying I was one of the candidates that was shortlisted to move forward with in the interview process for a Junior Web Developer (Remote) position. Seemed legit. No errors in grammar or punctuation. No gmail as the email being used to email me. They asked me for acknowledgment by responding "YES" to the email so they know I want to move forward. 25ish minutes later they responded telling me I needed to answer some screening questions. They sent them to me in a PDF but in the same PDF document they sent me, they included all the info for their company. Job position I was applying for (Job ID included), compensation, benefits, what its like to work there, what MY responsibilities would be as Junior Web Developer. The screening questions were pretty legit easy questions. Nothing asking for personal info not one bit. More so web related questions and experience questions. They told me the deadline to submit the questions is tomorrow at 6 p.m. I answered the questions and sent it back to them in within 2-3 hours. Everything looks like it checks out. But, I checked the domain name for the person that sent me the email (it was a [companyname]careers.org domain). It says it was created 4 days ago. This is a scam right or is this just an absolute coincidence? Like, they even included their entire tech stack in the document!

PS. I'm new to all of this. Thanks.

What email would be best for applying for jobs and in the general idea of careers?

Main Post:

Hello. I have a question about what email I should use for professional things like job applications. I will use a fake name for the sake of privacy but here's the options.
Assuming my name is James Jamie Johnson, I have created a few different emails. I go by Jamie, not James, therefore one of them is [email protected], one is [email protected] and one is [email protected]. I've so far always used the one with the business after the dot and was wondering what you guys think would be the best? My thought was that it's cleaner and better than the [email protected] one, as it's more work focused etc. the "work" one I just came up with but yeah. What do you think is best?

Has anybody here actually gotten a good job from a cold call/email/message?

Main Post:

Has anybody here actually gotten a good job from a cold call/email/message? I always just assume these people are desperate because nobody wants to do the job they are offering but sometimes the pay sounds good.

Top Comment: Was literally drunk trolling LinkedIn at like 2am. Uploaded resume and was applying to interesting roles. No cover letter, nothing more than the ‘apply now’ button. They messaged back, went through 3 rounds, 50%+ raise and dropped 30 points in my blood pressure overnight.
